July again saw a team of volunteer builders from the Estonian Christian
Ministries building studio rooms for the prospective Russian work at the
Tartu Family Radio. The last vacant attic room in the house of the Higher
Theological Seminary assumed a new appearance, and again in three weeks
the former scrap-and-trash-filled attic was changed beyond recognition.
Three studios, an office, and a storage room are now waiting for the commencement
of work in a new area.
The builders even had some time and energy to spare--besides the completion
of the main project the Tartu Family Radio was supplied with air and light,
that is, seven attic windows and a kitchen corner. The Engineer Marvin
Steelman replaced the previous transmitter with a more reliable one. The
new Continental Electronics should endure even more violent voltage oscillations
than those stirred up time and again in Estonia by the fall and spring
storms. The farewell party was held on July 25. We listened to the Word
and enjoyed the singing by the mandolin choir of the Tartu Salem Baptist
Church. This was followed by a coffee table prepared primarily by the sisters
from the same Salem church. All the members of the building team were presented
with the CDs of the mandolin choir and the youth ensemble The Holy Sisters
Band to commemorate their trip. In the evening they were also taken on
a tour to Kavastu to see the plot of the prospective mast for a medium
wave transmitter. Early the next morning the traveling team was already
at the Tallinn Airport to start their journey home.
