October 15-16, 1999 saw another series of the Tartu Family Radio Days. Inasmuch as the PP99 partially overlapped with the elections to the local authorities of the Estonian Republic, the main emphasis was also on the local authorities as well as Tartu as a whole. The slogan of the PP99 was CHOOSE GOODNESS! The PP99 were opened by Andrus Ansip, Mayor of Tartu, and Joel Luhamets, Dean of the Tartu Deanery of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church (EELC). Apart from the traditional collection of donations for the work of the Tartu Family Radio the large-scale Family Radio Days 1999 tried to direct the listeners’ attention to the need to participate in the elections as well as to assist in making the right decisions. Several politicians, from individual campaigners to the forum of the candidates for the post of the mayor, were called to the studio, The microphone was open to all political forces. The moderators of the election programs, Mare Pihlak, Hillar Peets, Toomas Jüriado, and Marika Kusnets, did their best to clarify the visions of different politicians concerning the place of human, or Christian, basic values in the future Estonian society. On the two days of intensive and concentrated broadcasting the listeners were also able to have their say, the phone lines were constantly engaged and the feedback was strong. The corporation “Tartu Agro AS” provided listener prizes for the radio quiz participants in the form of sausage products, which gave an additional boost to the happy hustle.
