The entire 1999 has been a year of computerization and digitalization
for the Tartu Family Radio. The cooperation with the firm Microlink Online
bore us an online Internet connection. A large number of donations collected
through the Family Radio Days have been invested in the computer park and
information technology devices. This has been highly beneficial to the
Tartu Family Radio both in the office work and the montage and design of
broadcasts already now, not to mention the future. Our good helper Madis
Asu has spent weeks, or more likely, months on the construction of the
Family Radio’s own network server as well as on its installation and the
equipment of network cables to studios and elsewhere. He has done this
mostly out of his own interest and enthusiasm. The cooperation between
Madis and Paavo has produced a usable digital sound studio for musical
recordings. Fearing that the “heart” of the broadcasting center, the automation
system “Digilink” might not “survive” the turn of the millennium the Estonian
Christian Ministries furnished us with a new powerful computer and the
appropriate software. The new technology of the BSI Wavestation 3.0 should
release the staff of the Family Radio first and foremost from the problems
concerning the tapes, cassettes, and CD-s at its disposal. The entire phonographed
material will be recorded on the hard disc and thus will be liable to no
wear. However, the shortage of time delays the introduction of the new
system. While Madis has already invaded the world of new possibilities
the entire staff of the Tartu Family Radio will probably have to wait until
the 21st century to learn it. Indeed, the daily work is the best teacher.
One of the fruits of the computerization of the Tartu Family Radio
is also its own website. Webmaster Jaan Süld assumed responsibility
for making the Tartu Family Radio visible for the surfers in the Internet,
Madis Asu for making it audible, and Tarmo Toom for making it interactive.
